Day 03 | Kandy – Matale – Dambulla – Sigiriya
The following day we depart to Dambulla after breakfast. En-route we will be visiting Matale Spice Garden to see different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for. Here, we will not only be able to encounter different spices but see how some of these spices are grown and processed. We will also visit a Hindu temple, in Matale.
Then we visit Dambulla cave temple, which contains more than 150 Statues of Lord Buddha. This was where a king of the 1st Century B.C. took refuge and later converted it into a monastery. Then we leave for the hotel in Sigiriya. There we check into the hotel at Sigiriya before the evening climb of the Lion’s Rock Sigiriya, a World Heritage Site. Sigiriya Located a few hours’ drive from Colombo, is a magnificent rock fortress built in the 5th century A.D. This majestic Citadel in the sky was the refuge of King Kasyappa and is world-renowned for its Mirror Wall’, which consists of poems and paragraphs carved by some of the thousands of visitors who visited the rock many years ago, and for its magnificent frescoes, similar to the Ajantha frescoes of India.
Then we return to the hotel for the overnight stay and dinner.
