Day 03 | Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya
After breakfast a village tour can be arranged on request. Then, we leave to Polonnaruwa to enjoy a city tour.
The city of Polonnaruwa is the medieval capital & crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I. It remains superior proof of ancient culture & heritage blended with religious beliefs. We will take a walk across its scattered walls which is surrounded by stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures. While observing the relic house, the Watadage which features beautiful stone carvings, you will also be able to witness a slight Hindu influence on architectures and statues found in Polonnaruwa. You will also be able to sit by the side of Galviharaya and observe the absolute beauty spurting out of every corner of its huge Buddhist statues. Nissankamalla Council Chamber is a mind-spinning beauty to just sit back and watch with its swaying pillars reminding the aesthetics of a powerful kingdom which rests beside Parakrama Samudraya, the sea of Parakramabahu which is a masterpiece of irrigation!
In the evening, on request a safari can be arranged to the Minneriya National Park, on the way back to the hotel.
When night falls, we head back to the hotel in Sigiriya for dinner and an overnight stay.
